(A Page from History) ‘PakTurk is like an oasis in the desert for us’

Hüseyin Çelik, Minister of National Education of Turkey at the time, visited PakTürk School in Islamabad in 2005.

Assoc. Prof. Hüseyin Çelik, who served as the Minister of National Education of the ruling AKP government between 2003 and 2009, visited Pakistan after the devastating Kashmir earthquake in 2005. Visiting PakTurk Schools after his tour of the earthquake area, Çelik praised the PakTurk Schools’ educational achievements and aid activities for quake survivors. “PakTurk has been like an oasis in the desert for us,” he wrote in the schools’ visitors’ book.

Hüseyin Çelik, who was the Minister of National Education during the 59th government formed by the AKP, wrote these remarks on the visitors’ book of the PakTurk School in Islamabad, which he visited on October 21, 2005:

“I visited Çağ Turkish Educational Institutions in Islamabad. I witnessed kindness, refinement and courtesy in these homes of wisdom, which we may term as ‘Turkey in Pakistan’.

We are in Pakistan in the wake of the October 8 earthquake. Our hearts have been broken as we have been here to witness the aftermath of the disaster on site. PakTurk Schools has been like an oasis in the desert for us.

I congratulate everyone who contributed to the founding, management, education and training of the school. I extend my greetings and love to all personnel of these distinguished institutions which educate honorary ambassadors of Turkey.”
